about

In 1997, Rich D'Addona - drummer/percussionist and experimental musician - suffered an electrocution while working in the kitchen of a prominent jazz club. For around six months, a buzzing feeling continued to irritate his left arm which had acquired an intense contraction of its muscles.

After hanging out with artist Pterodactyl Man, it occurred to Rich that an alter ego was a great way to draw out the creative side of an individual, along with illness5 . Rich Machine was born - 'organic artificial' seems like a contradiction, as does humanmachine, but electro chemical energy is what surges through us all so really, we are all rich machines.

Traditional drum kits are rich machines, with their combination of technology and materials. To a drummer, they feel like travel/time machines. These are all characteristics which Rich draws upon to create new worlds, new moods and free flowing recorded compositions that were born from a single spark (or broken synth).

Sometimes scary, silly, even stupid, these 16 tracks reveal Rich Machine's love for replenishing the life of lo-fi ingredients, and dishing up something strange tasting and vivid to the mind's eye.

This is a collection of Rich Machine pieces recorded from 1997-1998. It is a lofi experiment on instruments that had been found, using 4-track tape, a Phonic analogue desk with a number of analogue/acoustic instruments.
Any digital fx were added post production but there are very few in number.

Now go wigout!
